Lost/Stolen Passports

In the case of a lost or stolen passport, the loss must be immediately reported to the local Public Security Bureau. If you lost your passport in Beijing, please contact:

The report must also be presented to Chinese authorities when applying for a new visa to replace the visa in the missing passport. Failure to obtain a replacement visa can result in a fine, or greater difficulty when attempting to exit China.

Things to bring when replacing your lost/stolen passport.  You must apply in person:

  • The original police report from the Beijing Municipal Public Security Beureau (see above for address);
  • Two recent color photos with white background (2 inches by 2 inches);
  • USD 100 for adults over the age of 16, USD 85 for minors under the age of 16, equivalent RMB is acceptable;
  • Completed DS-11 and DS-64 forms;
  • Proof of identity (eg. drivers' license, expired licenses, student IDs or any photo ID);
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship (eg. original and sealed birth certificate with filing number, canceled US passport)

Note: If the applicant is a minor under age of 16, both parents need to appear with the minor.
